Any book that has a Caldecott Medal is pretty good
Although these books lack the drama of life and death, the imagination, the creativity is inspiring for any kid.

Tuesday
Flying frogs that sit on lily pads swarm a neightborhood in a nigh of mayhem. They fly through drying clothes, get chased by dogs, and watch tv. Then they fly back to the pond. In the morning the neighborhood is confused on what happened. Next week a shadow of a big grasses on a barnyard…
Sector 7
A boy looks out his bus on a way to the empire state building. It's winter so he draws sea creatures on the window. He goes up to the observatory, and a cloud plays with him and takes him to sector 7, the cloud factory. There the clouds show him the cloud plans on how to make clouds. So he creates sea creatures, and the clouds are amazed. the grown up cloud designers and architects find out, and kick him out. The boy goes back to the empire statebuilding, and back to the bus. When he looks up, the designers changed their mind, and the sky is a wonderful oceanscape filled with octopi, lion fish, and schools of fish.
Flodsam
A boy finds a camera on the beach, and develops it, he looks at the pictures and is amazed of a oceanscape inside of it. Underwater Cities, mermaids, starfish islands, etc… then at the end of the film, he sees himself holding up the film, along with other boys and girls inside that film. So he puts the film back and throws it in the ocean or something like that… I didn't actually read it.
